Today my family had a big yard sale and while going through years of stuff, I stumbled upon some old autographed sports things that I had forgotten about.

First were these…

The story on these is that my aunt used to work in Hartford as a social worker and some of the Whalers came in for a children’s event. She had them sign these paper pictures for me and that was that. I think these were signed somewhere between 1985 and 1987.

Steve Weeks was a journeyman backup goalie who lasted for 13 years in the NHL. Unfortunately, his talent never matched his awesome penmanship! He get’s an A+ in my book for wishing me well and spelling my name correctly, unlike…

Ulf Samuelsson! Ugh. If I had known then that he would go on to essentially ruin Cam Neely’s career, I would have torn this up when my aunt gave it to me. Add to the fact that he misspelled my name as Cacy and I dislike him even more. I suppose it was nice of him to sign this for me but he still deserved to get sucker punched by Tie Domi.

Next up is this little treat from a Mr. Kenny Mayne (click to enlarge):

I wrote to Kenny Mayne back in 1998 because I was bored and he was my favourite ESPN anchor. I asked him a few questions about EPSN’s lack of soccer highlights, if he played fantasy baseball, why Jeff Gordon seemingly won every NASCAR race, and what his favourite highlight to cover is. I also asked him for a signed photo. Exactly one week later, I got a giant ESPN envelope which included a short note and a signed phot. Kenny Mayne will forever be my favourite sports personality ever.

Lastly, I went to the card shop today and the owner had another stack of Allen & Ginter minis for me. Check it out…

Four closer to the set. And dude, Cronos looks like a HARD ASS guy! Heh, Uranus.

These sailors got them shifty eyes.

Fact: Dostoevsky is the coolest cat in the Wordsmiths set.

Tomorrow is the Brad Park card show and I’m taking my newly acquired yard sale money and hope to pick up more A&G minis, vintage hockey, and perhaps an autograph or two. Updates soon!

Another (true) story for ya Casey……I may be doing a job for Rob Ftorek….he and his son rode over to the lot with me in my truck last week…nice guy…regular dude….cept I can’t help thinking that he played with and against some the the best ever. Arguably the best High School hockey player in Mass. history. He did buy a couple of old hockey games off me a few years back…I guess I won’t miss em! Ha!
