Shane over at Shoebox Legends sort of already summed up what I wanted to say about the Bruins, but I’ll add my two cents to this unfortunate turn of events.

It’s hard to get motivated to write a Bruins Friday post when the team has squandered a 3-0 series lead and doesn’t look all that capable of winning a Game 7.

The Bruins looked so sharp at the end of the Buffalo series and the first three games of the Philadelphia series. Heck, they even showed some serious heart in Game 4, coming back to force the game into OT with forty seconds left and Krejci getting hurt. In fact, I expected them to lose that game and then win Game 6. But something happened after Game 5. It wasn’t the Krejci injury (although that didn’t help) because the B’s have been without a consistent, healthy lineup since the start of the season. No, after Game 5 the B’s started playing like they had all season long: uninspired, punchless, apathetic, lazy, etc.

And that is why I’m not too surprised about what is happening. I watched this team all season up until the Pittsburgh/Cooke game. They failed me that game and not because they lost; I can live with losing. It was the way they lost. Thornton came out, beat the tar out of Cooke, and that was it; they look the rest of the game off. All I want out of my sports teams is hard play. When fans plunk down $150+ for a game, the team better play hard. When a fan commits 2.5+ hours of their time to watching their team, that team better play hard. Blah!

But the B’s sucked me back in. They started playing with passion and urgency and goals were being scored. I talked myself into a potential Cup run. Why not? All the big guns were dropping and the B’s were rolling. They were getting healthy at the right time, our goalie was hot, and guys were HITTING. But deep down, I was cautious, guarded even. Maybe it’s my lifelong history with the Sox and Bruins; Boston fans are always waiting for the other shoe to drop. And now is has.

So here we are, Game 7. This shouldn’t even be happening. This series should be over and the B’s should have had a couple of extra days rest before facing off against the Habs. My gut says lose tonight, but my heart and soul wants them to win more than anything else. But if they play like they have these past two games, they don’t deserve to win and I won’t feel bad for the team.

I chose Savard as my Friday Bruins player because he is the key to this offense. Everything runs through him. If they win tonight it will be because they are hitting and playing with passion. But above all, it will be because Savard has a couple of assists. This team will only go as far as Savard takes them.

As for the actual card…I really REALLY like autographs on see-through cards. I think they look sharp and classy. Can’t say the same for Savard’s signature, though. Sort of sloppy but I do like the inclusion of the jersey number. The overall design is really nice and showcases the autograph and if I had my way, my entire autograph collection would be on these cards.
