Drove down to a show today that, despite not having a lot of dealers, had a decent amount of cards I wanted. First, a little non-hockey…

1999 Bowman Chrome #431 Josh Hamilton

How can you not root for this guy? There are only a few non-hockey cards that I am looking for and this was one of them. Score!

2009-10 Allen & Ginter World’s Wordsmiths #WGWS2 William Shakespeare

Billy Shakespeare puts me two closer to completing this little set.

Okay, I was finally able to track down someone who had some of the Champ’s Historical Figures cards. These cards aren’t rare, but I feel like no one ever has them because no one bought a lot of the Champ’s product. So, here is what I was able to get…

YEE-HAW! Anytime you can grab a Taft card, you gotta pull the trigger! Even with these additions, I feel like I’m about a million cards away from completing it. HELP!

These next two were just cheap impulse buys…

2008-09 Upper Deck Masterpieces #1 Lord Stanley

2008-09 Upper Deck Masterpieces #62 The Sutters

I noticed when I got home that the Sutters card was damaged on the left side. If anyone has an extra copy, I’d like to work out a deal for it. The Lord Stanley card is just something I feel like I should have in my collection.

I couldn’t leave the show without picking up a goon card…

Okay, my last purchase and one of my favourites…

2006-07 Ultimate Collection Ultimate Signatures #US-RM Ryan Miller

$10! There is absolutely nothing I dislike about Ryan Miller. Even when he basically stood on his head against the Bruins in the playoffs last season, I was rooting for him. I honestly can’t believe that an on-card signature of one of the best goalies in the NHL with the chance to be the best American-born goalie of all time cost me $10.

So there ya have it!

Okay, I think collecting season is about to pick up for me. This year’s hockey is starting to arrive, I’m going to the Methuen/Salem card show for the first time since the start of summer (and Brad Park will be signing), and I start getting a regular paycheck again.

The big kickoff, though, is the fact that I was able to score a chunk of Allen & Ginter minis (Wordsmiths, Sailors, and Lords of Olympus) that I’ve been searching for today at my local card shop.

Check it out…

BOW BEFORE THE LORDS OF OLYMPUS! Zeus and Poseidon are obviously awesome dudes, but their brother Hades was the man, man.

Poor Ponce de Leon; the Fountain of Youth is Mountain Dew. If only he knew that!

I like Poe well enough, but I feel like there are other guys I would have liked to see represent American literature. How about Hawthorne or Melville? Or more current like Fitzgerald or Salinger? No love for Emerson or Thoreau? How about we get some ladies up in this piece and include Alcott, O’Conner, or Walker. I’d give just about anything for a Langston Hughes card. Just sayin’.

Also, I’d rather have a Sun Tzu card over a Shen Kuo card. Sadly, I don’t even know who Kuo is and I have a degree in literature and work as a librarian.

Please check out my want list for ones I still need. Also, I’m still trying to build the Champ’s Historical Figures set, so any help there would be greatly appreciated.
